And here be a probably large and certainly disorganised list of, yes, “Things to find out”…

Setting up a mood – e.g. how does Vikings do it? Music, atmosphere etc.
Transition shots – visions and dreams – the credits, from under the sea looking up…
ADD THIS IN:
The goal
- a 2d game engine
- grid/tile based
- grid based (g.e. rogue-like)/free movement
- multiple levels
- persistent items – a separate layer of items/objects/walls etc. that is updatable, based on the circumstances – e.g. a special ‘one-off’ item is collected, it shouldn’t be added again when the level/scene is reloaded – these items MAY be transferred to player, other NPCs or removed altogether (a destroyed wall etc.)
- generative/semi-generative elements
- game states to maknage game scenes/levels
